Ford Zephyr & Zodiac Mk II

Ford Zephyr & Zodiac Mk II - A Brief History

Ford Zodiac Mk 2 SaloonThe Mk 2 versions of the Zephyr and Zodiac were launched in 1956 at the same time as the smaller engined Consul Mk 2. As with the Mk 1 cars the Zodiac was the luxury version of the two and boasted leather upholstery two tone paint, and gold plated badges among other things. The engines came from the Mk 1 Zephyr & Zodiac but had an increase in cubic capacity from 2262cc to 2553cc. Apart from the saloon model the Zephyr & Zodiac Mk 2 was also available as a convertible, or as an estate. The estates were actually saloons that had been converted by Abbott of Farnham. There were styling changes in 1959 which included a lower roof line, larger glass area and a new dashboard layout. Front disc brakes and servo assistance became an option in 1960 and were made standard equipment in 1961. Production of the Mk 2 Zephyr & Zodiac ended in 1962 with the introduction of the Mark 3.
